Chatham Cycling Club BMX Race Held

Written by Submission on Sep 13th, 2011 // No Comment

The Chatham Cycling Club operates Wolfe Creek BMX at 22843 Creek Road in Chatham. BMX stands for bicycle motocross, a fun family sport for all ages. This past weekend Sept 9/10/11 we held a multi-race event attended by BMX riders from across Ontario. This is our 5th year for this event.

The event was a tremendous success despite the weather. The Friday racing was delayed due to the recent rains but we managed to prep the track and hold the races. The Friday night rain left our track too wet to ride on Saturday and Sunday. Rain outs are part of outdoor events but rather than canceling or rescheduling the event we arranged to move everyone to the BMX track in Milton. This was still a Chatham organized and sponsored event just not held inside Chatham. The positive response from the riders from as far as Port Elgin to Kingston, Ottawa and Quebec was tremendous, no one wanted the event canceled. Riders and spectators alike pitched in to reorganize and run some great races.

We thank our sponsors; No Frills Queen St., Shoppers Drugmart Queen St. Outdoor Power and Pedal, Continental Automotive, McGrail Farm Equipment, Bob’s Motosport, Dover Sanitation and Great Lakes Ice. The track is still open for local races Wed 5:30-7:30pm and Saturday 10am-1pm, and there is no charge for first time riders or spectators.

Here are the weekend stats:
Friday we had 85 riders for our double point race event
Saturday we had 180 riders for our triple point O-Cup Series Final event
Sunday we had 122 riders for our Race For Life Charity event for the benefit of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario for which we raised $1500

Weather moves Wolfe Creek BMX event to Milton

By Chatham This Week

Posted 7 days ago

Rainy weather in the week leading up to the Ontario Cup event at the Wolfe Creek BMX track in Chatham caused the race to be moved to Milton on the morning of Sept. 10.

Despite the change in venue, Chatham was still acting as the host club, and it proved to be the biggest event the club has ever held. On Sept. 9, there were 85 riders at Wolfe Creek for the double point race event.

On Sept. 10, the venue shifted to Milton, and Wolfe Creek hosted 180 riders in the Ontario Cup series season finale.

Wolfe Creek BMX continued to play the host in Milton Sept. 11, and 122 riders took part in the Race For Life charity event that raised $1,500 for Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Following are the results of the Sept. 10 Ontario Cup event by Wolfe Creek BMX members, giving their competition age and division:

Malaina Huffman, 15, Girls, 1st

Joel Jefford, 17, Intermediate, 2nd

Carter Huffman, 16, Expert, 3rd

Christian Bourbonnais, 13, Novice, 4th

Ethan Bennett, 9, Novice, 4th

Josh Dicaire, 13, Novice, 5th

Andrew Kitts, 9, Novice, 5th

Jordan Barnes, 11, Intermediate, 6th

The season standings after five Ontario Cup races:

Malaina Huffman, 15, Girls, 1st

Joel Jefford, 17, Intermediate, 3rd

Samuel Tamman, 19, Intermediate, 5th

Carter Huffman, 17, Expert, 7th

Andrew Kitts, 8, Novice, 8th

Jacob Tamman, 16, Intermediate, 11th

Jordan Barnes, 11, Intermediate, 11th

Wolfe Creek BMX is planning to host one more multi-track race in Chatham on Sept. 24
